Market Lamb
2004 Briggsdale Classic
Open Jackpot Show
33 exhibitors brought 54 lambs to compete in last year’s Briggsdale
Classic Open Jackpot Market Lamb Show.
During weigh-in exhibitors were asked to take a general meat quality
assurance quiz. Gift certificates from this year’s sponsors were
also given to the high point quiz taker.
Showmanship began immediately following weigh-in and started off with
the Senior, Intermediate, Junior and PeeWee classes.
The first three age brackets were competing for the Harlene Allmer Memorial
belt buckles and for embroidered garment bags.
The PeeWee division was competing for embroidered duffel & garment
bag.
What makes the Briggsdale Classic unique is that this is the only show
where kids 8 and under can bring their market lambs to compete in the
ring.
The Main goal of the Briggsdale Classic is to inspire these young people
to participate in the livestock industry and lead us into tomorrow.
The market lamb judge was Mr. Cory Gilbert, CSU student majoring in Animal
Science and a member of the NJC judging team.
The show ran relatively fast and the jackpot show that began at 7am weigh-in
was over at Noon. The market lamb numbers were up by 20 from last year
and the committee hopes to keep that trend going.
The Briggsdale Classic Committee would like to thank everyone who participated
and supported the market lamb portion of our show and would hope to see
them again next year!
