Market Goat
2004 Briggsdale Classic
Open Jackpot Show
81 exhibitors brought 155 market goats to compete in the 2nd Annual Open
Jackpot Market Goat Show at the 2004 Briggsdale Classic. Exhibitors came
from as far away as Gillette, Wyoming; Hinckley, Utah; Alamosa & Monte
Vista, Colorado.
Our judge for the market goat show was Mr. Chad Hodgson of Fort Collins,
Colorado. He will be attending Colorado State University this fall double
majoring in Animal Science & Ag Business, as well as being a member
of the livestock judging team.
In showmanship, the exhibitors were competing for belt buckles and garment
bags. There were so many junior and intermediate exhibitors entered in
showmanship that the committee created 3 classes for each age division.
The market goat exhibitors were also asked to take a general meat quality
assurance test during weigh-in. The top individual was awarded a gift
certificate from a 2004 sponsor.
Also new this year, the Mountain States Meat Goat Association sanctioned
the 2004 Briggsdale Classic Market Goat Show. Any youth enrolled in the
MSMGA was awarded points for competing at the 2004 Briggsdale Classic.
Following up after the Overall Championship Selection was the 2nd Annual
Catch-it-Goat contest. The 2004 winner of the 2nd Catch-it-Goat is Colton
Carlson; there were 21 kids that signed up to catch in this year’s
contest. Last year’s winner, Dillon Pickrell, did very well; he
finished with PeeWee Reserve Champion in Showmanship and also finished
4th in his class. GREAT JOB DILLON!
What makes our show unique is that we allow 8 and under age kids the
chance to take part in the show. That is the best part about our show,
giving kids a chance and making a difference! All in all this years show
was even larger than last year’s. Even though we had 30 more goat
entries and 6 more exhibitors the show started at 1:00 p.m. and was finished
at 6:00 p.m.
The Briggsdale Classic Committee would like to thank everyone who participated
and supported this year’s Market Goat Show and would hope to see
them again next year! The Results of the 2004 Briggsdale Classic Open
Jackpot Market Goat Show are listed below:
